Question Acoustics...

I tried doing a forum search and an internet search and couldn't find much about EBMM acoustic guitars.

I did see the couple of Earthwood threads here (or the acoustic bass), but I'm not really interested in knowing about rare past guitars. What about the future???

I'm not sure if this inquiry is outta line, but you gotta understand that any baller would be curious and I had to ask.

I second that curiosity. More specifically, I'd like to see a classical guitar design. I have a feeling they could bring some serious innovation to the acoustic realm.

Can you imagine some JP, Luke, and Steve Morse acoustic models! I'd be so curious to see what they came up with.

Agreed. It would be cool, but I assume it's the same thing as with Carvin - it's just not cost effective enough especially since EBMM is doing so well with just electrics (plus amps, strings, etc.). I imagine the cost would be astronomical to set up an acoustic guitar production facility that can crank out EBMM acoustics at the pace and quality consistent with the Ernie Ball Music Man name. Plus, then they'd be up against Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Breedlove, Composite Guitars, etc ad nausea and we all know acoustics don't hold up nearly as well with as little maintenance that electrics do so they probably wouldn't 'sell themselves' like the electrics do.

I third the "I don't think it will happen" motion. EBMM is an electric guitar company. Much like decreebass pointed out, it's not terribly cost effective, and what would likely happen (as did with Carvin) is the acoustics would be farmed out to an overseas factory and the EBMM name would be stamped on them. The Ball family has far more integrity and pride in their products to let that happen, so we'll probably not have EBMM acoustics.

But there are plenty of great acoustic brands out there.

I don't know about the cost structure, but my perception is that the MM customer who wants a modern JP shredder or a pink EVH-style guitar is probably tonally satisfied by a piezo most of the time. I actually think maintaining a very good piezo option, rather than a traditional acoustic line, is a cool distinction of the Music Man brand.

The primary reason I'm interested is simply because nothing plays like an ernie ball - nothing. I'm just curious if this playability could transfer to the acoustic realm.
