curious about the age of my trans. red w/ maple sterling #38086. has string mutes which I've never seen on another , and anyone know why the electronics would have far less of a glossy high end than any others i've tried (sounds like a monster '70s j bass). I bought it used around '96...thanks
 
I will check the serial number at work tomorrow. As for the sound, I would have to hear it to evaluate. Kinda hard via computer. And welcome to the forum.

Sterlings came on the market in 1993 (93 model in pic). They adopted the current 'Ray bridge at that time and have followed suit with the 'Rays ever since. That particular bridge was designed for Flea.

Re the serial number....my toss is mid 1993 (perhaps June).
