Albert Lee or Silhouette?

Which would you rather play and why?

I had both at one time (Silo SSS and AL SSS). The silo was good but the AL was better. I liked to have 22 frets and the neck single coil position of the AL rather than 24 frets on the Silo and the Neck SC more towards the middle. Other than that the Silo was good. But I bonded real quick with the AL. It is light as a feather and I like that mine is an original pinkburst from 1994

I never tried a Silo Spec SSS with 22 frets but that would also be an option

I really like the neck on the Silhouette but I like the neck on the Albert Lee even more.

I've never played a Silo, but I don't like guitars with 24 frets, so maybe that's why. I will try a Silo Special someday.

I love the chubby neck on the Albert Lee. It's feels very full in your hand. It feels alot like the Axis neck. The Albert Lee's body is very comfortable and I really love the shape of it. You can't mistake one for any other guitar out there. To me, it seems like the guitar would fit in perfectly in a 1950's sci-fi movie. Maybe some robot could be playing one...maybe the robot from the cover of Mike's album:

The Al, Silo (24 fret) and Silo Spec (22 fret) are all really nice and the necks play similarly. It's a decision first whether you want the 24 fret range at the expense of pickup placement or not. Then, if you want 22, you really need to play both to decide which body you feel better with. The silo (and silo spec) are comfortable and easy to play while the Al is that and more, in my opinion. I find that with the Al, I absolutely have to have strap locks to feel safe.

To me, the necks feel the same on all of them. All are perfectly balanced and play beautifully. The nice thing is that whichever you pick up, you're going to be happy with your choice. You're deciding between the best of the best.

I think that the necks on both guitars are similar. I don't find the Albert neck to be chunky or clubby - infact i consider the neck to be just right for4 my small hands.
I know that when I try out customs guitars/necks built in my mates workshop, there are few necks he makes that are as "slim" as the Albert Neck, and we both feel the Albert Lee neck is sm2small" in comparison. However, I realise that feel/impression is in the hands of the beholder, and is dependant on guitar necks that they are currently familar with.

After almost 20 years of rocking with my Axis and EVH guitars, I would say that I actually prefer the feel of the AL!

The neck is great, and in solid Rosewood its even better!
