I just went to my local ebmm dealer(Willies American Guitars) here in Saint Paul and put down a deposit to order a new bass.

Bongo 5 in Buttercream
Fretless w/ lines
HS pickup combo w/ piezo option

and I can't wait! :D

The upcoming weeks must be a hard time for you, I give you my blessing:)
Anyway, with these combinations, that must be a killer-bongo

I absolutely love the SC/H/Piezo pickup config with my fretless. I am sure you'll love it.

I belive late march is what the guy at Willies said but that would be the very earliest I would expect it. I know it will be an awesome bass so the wait will be worth it. I have a gig in the Bahamas in May so I'm hoping to get it before then.

I'm pretty sure when I get it and finally open that bad ass case I'll have a smile on my face that will last for ages. I already have a Bongo 5 HH w/ piezo in candy red so I figured I'd go with a little change. I thought about going single H but in the end I wanted the single coil.

I had the same strings (TI Superalloys) on both my fretless SC/H/P and my fretted H/H/P. I found that I wasn't using the fretted much, so I changed out the strings to Sadowsky flats. Now, the H/H/P is back in full rotation with the fretless. :D

Between those two basses, I can get a pretty astounding array of sounds. And, if I break out the rubber pick, the number of sounds doubles again.

You'll be glad you got the SC, I think. My favorite tone for fretless Bongo is about 90% neck pickup, with the piezo blend at 50/50%, and a slight low mid bump.

If my two Bongos weren't already such muted colors, I'd be ordering a Butterscotch tomorrow. But, I'm going to hold off and wait until there is a Limited Edition color that I truly love (the butterscotch is too close to my white after I get a tort guard) and I'm going to order a single H/P 5 string, and call it a day.

I'm sure after you play the SC/H/P fretless that you'll feel the same way.

I am extremely jealous of the brown case, though.

I ordered a VB unlined Fretless SR4 in November, and I'm still waiting. Ordering a bass is a patient man's game... try to think of something else :)

I have been going back and forth on what color fretless Bongo to get. Now, I know for sure it will be the stealth fretless Bongo!!! Just wish they would make an Ebony finger board -- That would ROCk!!! :D

Here is a wish that your new Bongo comes in time for you gig in may :)

Just incase anyone was wondering. I got lines because I like the look not because I find it difficult without them. I have another fretless with an ebony board(Godin A5) and it has no lines. I'll probably be getting rid of it soon because I doubt I'll need or use it when the new bongo comes in so if anyone is interested let me know.

That's pretty funny actually, because I got unlined for the looks and I probably do need the lines :) I used to play quite a bit of fretless, but it was a 62 reissue Jazz with a warmoth lined neck. The unlined neck will require some woodshedding I'm sure!

I guess it depends on how much you look at your neck when you play and how well your ears are trained. I play upright also and have had experience with other fretless basses so I don't think too much about it. Running the modes and other exercises will help get your fingers and your ears sink up with the fretless. Since you have some experience it shouldn't be too hard.
