Just got back from Waco, where I traded the Lava Pearl 4HH + cash for Slamzilla's Sapphire Black 5HHp. Its really nice, but boy does it really seem to dwarf my fretless. Plays great, even with the rounds and has a great full sound. It is also setup superbly, so yay. Might sell it eventually, but this will be my only fretted for the next couple of months, so I shall have to see how I fair with a 5 string.

On the way back I stopped at GC in hopes of picking up a different set of strings, no dice there. However I did find a certain Lord Bongo looking lost and confused at a keyboard with his son. Jack immediately started complaining about the crappy Musicman selection, which puzzled me greatly seeing as this particular GC has about 15 MM's at any given time. I then lead him to the quiet room where to his surprise was a dual SR and SR5...and there was much rejoicing. Somehow Jack had missed half of the basses in the store, but luckily I was there to help sort things out.

Dwarfs in size only. The pessimism is that I don't know if I will like the 5 string, and since there is a good chance I sell it when My red Single H comes in, this is more of an experiment for me. I fully plan to enjoy this beast until that might happen at least.

Odd .. from what I can see, the only difference in size is in the length of the headstock .. or am I missing something ... dohhh ... (oh, and the width of the neck of course ... )

i did a quick cut'nn'shut in Photoshop to show you .. no resizing, just a bit of rotation to get goldie to line up. The only difference I can see is caused by the different angles of the guitars in original picture.

Been playing a 5HH about 5 months and a 4HH about a week. It's really not typical of me to have both the 4 and 5-string of the same bass. I have many matched pairs of FL-and-fretted of various basses cuz to me that's a huge difference compared to 'just one more string'. But... the Bongo 4HH hit me as very different from the 5HH. Took me very much by surprise and insisted on going home with me.

Well, after further consideration (read: physically placing one on top of the other), I'm dumb. Body's are the same size. The fiver definately has a more substantial feel to it, which I guess I can attribute to the neck, but it really does feel like a whole other beast.

Sorry .. didn't explain myself .. I meant "odd that someone should think they're different sizes" coz I couldn't see it.

And the reason the fiver appears wider in the cut'n'shut is because they were photographed at a slight angle to eachother, so the perspective is off.

but if you look at the nuts on the 2 guitars the scalse seem equal, it looks like it's only the headstock that is longer by one machine head's worth ....

Maybe thats what he is saying. I dont think the scale length is different, just the actual length.
