Any experience/advice re: removing the Majesty 1st fret inlay?

Love me some Petrooch/DT, but I don't necessarily jive with the DT logo on the guitar for live shows...
No disrespect to John/EBMM. I did inquire, they don't ship it without the inlay, which makes sense.
So, any of you have any advice as far as removing this inlay when I do drop the cash in a few months' time on a Polar Noir 7? Thanks y'all :)
 
A good luthier should be able to do it. There will be sizeable portion of wood to be filled once the inlay comes out. As the pro musicians in your area who they trust their instruments with and get some quotes for the job.
 
No experience, but if you love the guitar and never plan on selling it... go for it.
 
I really don't get this. It's not like is actually says "Dream Theater". The symbol was for when they were called Majesty, which is the namesake of the guitar.

It's your money, do what you want, but I couldn't imagine routing the neck out on a neck-through instrument to get rid of an inlay.
 
I think that only the people up front will notice anything at all. The rest of the audience probably won't be close enough to see it. Plus, you'll be moving around while playing. I would just leave it there until someone in the crowd comes up to you to ask about it. I'm betting that no one will. Good luck!
 
I don't think that 90% of the people in the crowd will even notice that it's a signature guitar, and those who will, probably won't notice that the first fret marker is gone - it's really not that obvious to me.
 
It would look strange,with all the mirrored frets,and then nothing..I would never consider doing that to my Majesty
 
You could try asking cs what thickness the inlay is? Remove the nut, drill a couple of holes under the inlay and try steaming it out in one piece. - keep it! Then cut a plain one out and replace. A lot of work and you may not get it out in one piece.
 
Personally, I'd sell the guitar and find one without the inlay. If they don't make it, then that's rough. The inlay would totally bug me too, so I don't blame the original poster at all.
 
Let me know if you find a good solution. I know it sounds silly, but that's the one atheistic thing on the majesty I haven't been able to get over. Oh how I wish standard dots or no inlays were an option on the majesty!

Ouch! Count me as one that's glad MP left, or was kicked out, or whatever happened. I LOVE Flying Colors, Transatlantic, The Winery Dogs, and Neal Morse Band.

Yes, I'm also a big fan of Mike. The Flying Colors shows in Paris were fabulous.
