Bass IS really eaisier to play than guitar. We all just have too much pride and and our egos are too big to face up to that and admit it.

+1. Its easier to physically play than guitar.
I still support the idea that it is wayyyy more fun to play a nice rhythm part than a lead guitar. Its all preference.
I also think bass is only easier when starting. Once you are used to guitar, its easier. Whatever you are used to, is easier to play. Guitarists who pick up basses often are uncoordinated, and cant play well, same thing for a bassist on guitar,.

I think its easier to learn the concepts, general ideas, and fretting of the bass over guitar.
However, I think being a skilled, disciplined, and tastefull player on bass, is just as hard as guitar.

I agree. It took me 3 years to really find myself and my style on bass. It took all that time of constantly playing and writing songs with my band to realize what being a good bass player is about. I think in order for a bassist to learn this, first they have to lose the 'BASS IS JUST AS HARD IF NOT HARDER' attitude, and let it be what it is. Then you have to realize you dont have to overplay. Often, less is more.

I think if you were to learn guitar in addition to bass it would change your whole perspective. I was tooling around not too long ago on the 'ol 6-string and came up with a cool little lick. I moved it over to bass and I LOVED it! I would NEVER have come up with it on Bass since it required a huge amount of movement over the frets, easy on guitar, hard on bass.

Do you honestly think that every one of the 30,000+ members there is a gear snob? Is it possible to be that clueless?

Exactly - that's what I love about these online bass communities. We have a lot of cross-board members (myself included) so that when one goes down, we can at least make sure it's not just at our end. That and we console ourselves as to how we can't get on said forum(s). The online bass community rocks.bassmonkeee said:

The funny thing is...some of 'us' are 'them'...just like at the DP.

Now, back t my original, I mean my second point. If you wanted to play in a rock band, you could be a smoking guitarist and get yourself a mediocre band, or a decent bassist and get yourself a smoking band. Bass is easier.
