i'm replacing the bridge pickup in my rg7 string with a duncan JB7 and its a 4 conductor pickup + bare ground. the original pickup in it is a 2 conductor + bare ground. anyone know where i should put the extra wires?!? i posted the schematic of the 7 string below. i'm at a loss!! help help! lol
 
The other two wires are for coil tapping your humbucker. Usually, they are just tied together, unless you want to coil tap, in which case you would connect the wires to a switch.
 
thats what i was thinking, but if you solder them together can it still do the inner coils of both humbuckers like the diagram shows? then do you solder the two wires to the contact on the switch? grr...
 
Well, my best guess would be to solder the two wires together and proceed as if it were a two conductor pickup. My recommendation would be to E-mail Seymour Duncan costomer service and ask them what to do. I'm not sure if they have a forum, but if they do, I would check out the FAQ area too.
 
yeah its weird, the stock pickup has a red lead, a white lead, and a ground..... makes no sense to me, only 2 conductor i've ever messed with only had a single conductor with braided ground around it.

i think i might have figured it out, black is north pole start, white is finish, red is south pole start and green is south finish. so if i solder white and red together, black and green to the switch and bare to the ground it should work. i think it gets the two inner humbucker coils on 2nd position by shorting the south pole (green) because green is normally solderd to ground with bare. make sense to anyone? i think it might be right..........
 
hey nobozos this is what i came up with. check out the diagram and see if this makes sense. i think they get that 2nd position inner coils of humbuckers by soldering the finish of the south pole (green) to the switch and shorting it out, rather than just grounding it with the bare like normal.
 
Well, that makes about as much sense as anything I guess. I would still try to make contact with a Seymour Duncan rep though to get a solid answer.
 
yeah i guess i should, now that i look at it i'm not so sure it does make sense.......lol i'll leave the schematics to the people that know what there doing.
