I was at my local GC earlier today checking out their MM stock and noticed they had a 1979 SR on the wall. The neck and frets were in good shape. The finish has yellowed nicely with wear to the wood where the arm cut should be and some pretty heinous buckle rash to the wood on the back. Supposedly it had the original case, too, but I didn't have him go to the trouble to get it out to verify.
They're asking $1799, but I'm sure they'd come down on the price.
It played great, but I honestly preferred the feel of the NEW SR4 with a Maple fretboard.
