Anyone try stainless strings on their Bongos? How was the difference with the stainless soundwise?
 
Got stainless on mine right now. They sound brighter than the stock strings, if that's what you're after.

Tried 'em. Thought they were way too zingy. Was looking for more growl. Tried other strings and wound up back with Slinkys. I figured out, to get more growl, buy a different bongo (singleH).
 
I get a bit more growl out of my SR5 than the Bongo but they both kick some butt.

I fell in love with the Bongo look. Otherwise, I'd have an SR5. :)

And, yes, I agree. SR5's and Bongo's both kick biblical-reference-to-a-donkey. :D Up and down the street.

stainless will give you more highs, but slinkys give me a more pronounced midrange on my bongo's. and not as ridgid feeling for the action.
 
i love the EB Stainless Super Slinkys. I used to use other stainless strings but really got into the EB Stainless.

I say give it a shot. Personally I love stainless on my Sterlings. but its all subjective ... consider it a < $20 experiment.

My only problem with being into the "bright" sound which stainless is awesome for is that I end up buying/changing strings a lot! im hooked on the "brand new stainless strings" tone and when they lose some of the brightness (cuz they will with some aging) I miss it and end up wanting to put a fresh set on there
 
Just put a set of stainless Hybrids on my Bongo 4HH, just to try out...
Bongo is new to me, and I still haven't quite figured it out yet, so I'm trying
different things. I kinda like it with the stainless, we'll give it a shot for a
while, but I have to say that somehow I prefer the sound of the Ray over the
Bongo... I find it kinda "finnicky", whereas the ray, whatever you dial in, it just
sounds perfect IMHO.
 
La Bella Super Steps

I had really good results with the La Bella Super Steps.Once you play them for a couple of days they are just about the funkiest string around...unfortunatly they cost a lot (but if you wipe em down after playing they last a long time)
