I was just wondering how the old EVH necks compare in size, profile, shape vs. the axis model necks.

Nope - almost. the Axis is just a bit wider at the bridge side. Check the FAQ, I'm pretty sure the details are in it.

Feel-wise, I think they're the same.
It's the same back profile, just a hair fatter on the heel of the Axis.

i believe the axis is 1/16 inch wider at the nut

They added 1/32" to the heel side of the neck to alleviate the problem of the high E falling off the fretboard. (Problem with the EVH). Some still report that problem with the Axis.

when I think of side I think of high E or low E and heel is the body end of neck.
