Are you anal about your 'boards???

My earlier post had got me thinking. I now have 2 guitar buying rules.....

1. Must be EBMM....and...
2. Must have Maple Fretboard.

Why?? To me, Maple feels more natural, organic, real, less interference between my fingers and the pu'ps, looks better, easier to clean, lights my cigar etc etc.

These are views with no foundation and zero credibility. I see players daily who play RW boards who have more guitar ability in their little finger than I could ever hope for......just wanted any other views out there.

So -what do you think???

Think it depends more on the guitar. I couldn't imagine a LUKE with a maple board. I think it would look funny. (or amazing) not sure...

For me, I love rosewood. But I also like maple. I think some work better on certain guitars than others. I love the feel of rosewood, but at times I love the snap of maple. If I could have a fretboard that was half rosewood/half maple I would die. I would love to see a birdseye maple board on a JP too.

I agree with Ricman - if it's EBMM, it should be maple (whether it's male or female maple really doesn't matter - sorry Rob....).

only requirement is that it has to be EBMM. RW, maple, it's all good. I love the variety and differences each gives.

I've got maple boards on the Axis Sports and Super Sports, but Rosewood on my 20th. I prefered the look of the rosewood on the 20th.

I'm quite GASsing for a BFR axis, with MM90's and a reosewood board though. It would be cool if they made some.

Yeah, it does have to do with the guitar and the player in my opinion. Personally, the only Rosewood that I like that I have ever played is a JP. My Les Paul doesn't have that tone, and neither does that cheap OLP Petrucci. My main guitar is my Jackson Dinky, with seymour duncans, maple neck, and a floyd rose. Its a great sounding guitar, but the reason why I believe it is both the guitar and player is because how the guitar is played really matters. Anything can come into place, string tension, neck, body, w/e. Even effects have a huge role.

Haha - all good. I still think Maple necks are easier to clean. There's the same amount of kak on a RW board - you just can't see it thats all!!

I forgot to say I also like the way Maple "grubs up" over time - the worn in kinda of dirt that wont clean off without sanding. Priceless MOJO imo.
