Axis setup

Hi all,
I have just bought an EB MM Axis, it was built in 1996. It is the best guitar on the world.
But I have a little problem. I think the action is too high, and all six strings buzz on an open string to the 5th fret and no higher. I know that means that more relief is needed, but I don't know where to turn the truss rod. If i see the guitar fromthe playing position, where should I turn the truss rod? Up or down ? My action is about 2.3mm , the F.A.Q. wrote 1.6 mm. How can I solve this problem?

Welcome to the club Marqczy! Unfortunately, guitar setups are a little difficult to describe well in a newsgroup. The action of your Axis depends on the height of the trem posts, neck relief, and neck angle (is it shimmed or should it be?), among other things, and all these elements inter-relate with one another in such a way that you really have to practice quite a bit and go through a lot of trial and error before you learn to eyeball the discrepancies and work it out yourself. In my case, the first steps in learning how to do my own setups included finding a good luthier who would set up my guitars for me, and let me quiz him about everything he was doing (I drove him crazy with questions!) and buying a good book on guitar maintenance by Dan Erlewine. Between badgering my luthier, reading the book, and gradually gaining the confidence to work things out by trial and error, I eventually got to the point where I set up all my own guitars. I'm sure you can too, but my advice for this run would be to get a good guitar tech to do it for you - an 8 year old guitar could surely use a good setup anyway.

I would recommend downloading the Wolfgang Owners Manual. The Wolfgang and the Axis are pretty much the same as far as adjustments. The W.O.M. is full of useful information that transfers over to the Axis. It will take you through every adjustment. Good Luck.
