axis trem bar

hey guys, my trem bar seems kind of stiff. I know there is a way to loosen, I have even read some posts on how to do it. But for some reason I do not really get it. I got in a car accident a couple months back and im pretty retarded now, so its hard for me to follow instructions etc. Can someone please explain how to loosen the trem bar for me? Do I have to open up the back of the guitar to do so? Also, does having a looser trem bar help in any way, or does it come down to personal preference? Any help would be awesome from some fellow EB owners, afterall, you fellas convinced me to pick one up, and a great pick-up (no pun intended) it was...

Until someone more qualified posts, here's what I recall about the Axis (I don't own one myself).

I think you have to remove the cover on the back of the guitar and look for a hex screw. That controls the trem arm tension. I'm sure it's purely personal preference as to how tight or loose it should be.

Nope..There is a set screw on the side of the trem arm. I bleeb it's a 1.5 MM Allen wrench..Just tighten that set screw a bit. The one that Steve is talking about holds the arm in.

tightening the screw will make the bar more loose? I am messing with it now and it doesnt seem to make much difference. WHen I loosen the screw it just sseems to make the piece that is holding it loose, not the actual bar itself. I want to be able to let the bar just hang down freely when I am playing etc.

I don't know if you can actually do that with the EBMM Floyd arm... It may not be designed to accomodate that loose-goose swing...

Sorry, I read your post wrong...If you want the arm loose, it should swing when you loosen the set screw. Be careful..if the screw comes all the way out and drops to the floor you'll never find it. It is tiny. You can try to loosen the screw on the underside a bit, and put a drop or two of some thin oil like 3n1 down the shaft from the top side. this may help also.

hmm...i loosened the screw to the point where it fell out and I had to feel around for it for about 5 minutes on the floor. The bar still didnt swing freely, really made no difference. Like if I try to swing the bar around in a complete circle it kinda slows down when it is pointing away from the headstock. Sounds kinda creaky too.

if you take off the spring cover on the back there is a screw going right into the bottom of the handle.you can loosen that, but i bet if you do what jon says and put a couple of drops of light oil, like 3 in 1 oil ( thats a brand name not a type of oil) then it will loosen up on with out messin with the screws

The screw that I described in my earlier post. Still, sound like you need that oil more than anything else..
