Hey guys,

Not been on in a while, however I thought I would share my bands new music video with you all since I used my beloved JP12 :D

The tone I have achieved from this guitar throughout our whole new EP is just mind blowing, I would absolutely love your feedback on our new single 'History Is written By The Victors', my lead tone for the solo is just <3 (Solo @ 2:25)

PS Ernieball I am coming for you!! My ultimate aim in life is to get an endorsement! :D

I'm really not a fan of emo, but since you're asking, I can drop some technical advice...

Whoever mixed your track unfortunately followed the evil trend of overcompression, making your band the newest victim of the dreaded Loudness Wars. Just like almost anything that is produced these days, your mixing is brickwalled, with all instruments absolutely crushed together. I simply could not appreciate your track until the end, because my ears hurt.

There's no way to say your tone is "great", simply because all the guitars are just indiscernible background noise, and they sound just like any other overcompressed distorted guitar that's coming out these days. You could have used a $80 guitar instead of your EBMM, it would sound the same. This is not your band's fault, it's your producer's fault, it's a widespread horror that goes on and on since the early 2000's.

Here's the waveform of your audio track:

See how the track is lacking dynamics. The average loudness of your track with the topped peaks is around -12.5 dB, which is just a ridiculously high value. There's no way you can have a pleasant sound with such a high compression level.

I don't know how much the guys on your band care about good production, but if you care, don't let it happen on the next production. Overcompression is ruining all new music, this must stop.

Firstly, absolutely appreciate your response!

For me, a track like this should absolutely be 'in your face' so I'm really happy with the production :)

If you google Collin, he's mixed for the likes of Slipknot, Bullet For my Vallentine etc so that explains the 'loudness' aha.

I agree. I love how slick the overall track is. And I think the songs have dynamics in them enough without worrying about being overly compressed as a whole. Your benefits that genre perfectly and I think the added use of awesome guitar leads takes it up a step

I absolutely loved it! It's hard for an old 80's rocker like me to break the mold of my genre and adapt to new stuff, but that song was tasteful in every area. Super talented!!!
 
I really enjoyed the song Simon, and although that's a good technical view of the mix I thought it sounded fine. Perhaps I'm used to it, or just not a producer, but I liked it.
