...No, you're not being ignorant...

I am almost convinced that I will not be renewing my subscription when it runs out next year. They also overreport on the same few bass players as well. I'm really getting quite bored with them, actually.:(

I've read BP since the beginning and have all but a couple. I like it a lot, and ironically one of the old issues I'm currently rereading is the Pino cover issue with the Bongo review. Good stuff!

Been a subscriber for many years and I enjoy the read...

I too was disappointed by the lack of EBMM NAMM coverage...

Guys

Here's the deal. American print media is a joke. They are an endangered species. Most of the time by the time you get your magazines you have already read it on the internet.
I don't advertise in the mags so I dont get coverage. They give me reviews because its too hard to ignore Music Man and they dont want to piss me off due to the the string ads in the guitar mags.

Have you ever read a scathing review of anything in these mags? If the product sucks and they write about it they lose an advertiser.

I have been critical of print and shifted most of our ad dollars to word of mouth, viral and grass roots. It sort of pisses them off because they know we are kicking ass without them.

It gets funnier when GW and GP do artists features they conveniently dont mention string choice on most of our artists.

Funny, when I read this, thats what first popped into my head.

EB doesnt pay them for advertising, so they dont want to show EB any love.

Oh well, those Rays, Sterlings, and Bongos seem to be doing okay even without the "help" of Bass Player mag.:D

Exactly what I was thinking. Though I agree that MM kicks craploads of ass without anybody to hype them, I'm just a nut for anything MM and would love to read some articles.

Though, if I have to choose between articles and Awesome basses/Awesome CS/Awesome Variety/A 'Down to earth' company... the list goes on and the choice is clear.

Its not just american print big poppa - tis in TV, and in every media everywhere... at the moment the only free media is forums on the interweb such as this...... that are often moderated by volunteers (or owned by people making no money) so therefore there is less vested interests...

I'm glad you chimed in, BP, 'cause I'm always hoping to see a Music Man ad in the mags, myself. At least now I know not to look! Can you divert some of the saved advertising dollars into the development of the fabled wah pedal? Pretty please?

I used to buy guitar mags for the transcriptions but aside from an issue featuring Rush or Randy Rhoads with some cool pics, I don't get them anymore.
I'm pretty much set in my ways as far as bass playing is concerned & really no artist is going to sway my choice of gear & there isn't much one of the columnists in their "lessons" that I'd be interested in learning....the mags seem more for noobs & young folks.
Funny thing about seeing this thread is I practice @ my singer's girlfriend's house & her son had the latest issue of BP & a whole bunch of tab books.

Nathan Watts scored his biggest hits on his '74 Presloppy Bass and '79 MusicMan Stingray (wich he still pulls out for recordings). (page 37)

I'm good to go on the rag for the next two years (thanks mom, for my b-day present, even though I can't read). I don't see myself re-newing. The only EBMM ads I ever see is from the Beav. I do admit I find some useful stuff in the rag (basstech), some times. The April woodshed is a "joke" on us. Watt a waste of trees. April fool on me.

EBMM doesn't need to advertise. I love pics of them, and thanks to everyone here, I get new ones all the time.

BP word of mouth is how I really heard about MusicMan and your basses. I'm sure I've seen players with your instruments and maybe a picture in MF or AMS catalogue, but I didn’t really hear about your products till a friend of mine told me about your basses and how good they are…And, he had seen a lefty! So a few weeks later I ordered my SR5 and the rest, as they say, is history. :D

I hope I’m doing my part, because I catch myself going on and on about my latest EBMM. I took the ButterCream Bongo H/H to the jam tonight and played a set, several people came up and did some ooooh and ahhhh’ing and everyone said they liked the tone, not my playing, but, the tone.

Excellent instruments will always, some how, be known. Screw a bunch of print ads, but if you want, you can use my likeness free of charge in any of your ads. I’ve got a real nice shot of me and my SR5… you know the one I’m talking about.

Seriously, what can you possibly learn about EBMM in a mag that you won't get here?

In this forum you can talk to the CEO, the factory folks, the office staff, the dealers and of course, the passionate but knowledgeable aficionados!

Sterling, I enjoyed all those ad dollars. The Open House did more for EBMM basses and guitars than the same amount invested in print ads, or that's how I see it, anyway. I watched people fall in love all over again with the instruments. We got to hang with Dudley and Jon and Beth and Drew and the other Jon and you, you big doofus. Money well spent, sir - IMHO. I was already addicted and convinced, but I saw so many people making the connection.....what a fine time that was.

I buy the mags, but only to keep up with the competition.

Someday, will there be another Open House? I want to hang out with Luke and Dargin and Aziah and Dan and Jon again!
