Bass/Rig/GAIN Question

I just took delivery of a new Eden rig ... WT550 head and D212XLT-4 ohm cab. I'm currently using my old Yamaha RBX 200 bass, anxiously waiting for my new Stingray to arrive. My current bass is "entry level" in comparison to a Stingray, passive and about 16 years old. I'm not getting the volume out of my new rig that I think I should ... based on the process of elimination, I think it could be the bass, at least suspect it is to some degree. I'm wondering if I might expect higher gain/output from my Stingray? Thanks!!!

Is there a pad on the amplifier? If so, is it active? Is the amp set for the load of the cab? Are all the cables good? Is the volume turned up? Is the volume on the bass turned up?

Passive basses can be quiet, especially if they are old and the pots arent in great condition. Definitely post the settings on the amp, as far as input gain and output go.

I think I have the amp/cab set-up properly. I'm pretty meticulous. I have gain active, at about 2 o'clock, enhance at 9 o'clock, internal compression on, volume at 12 o'clock and everything else flat. The cable is a new Speakon, which I already swapped out to eliminate this as a possibility.

In terms of amp config ... from the Eden site ... "The WT550 Traveler, is a hybrid tube design rated at 750 watts at 2Ω with a minimum of 3dB of headroom. Standard features include: low noise compact design, -12dB input pad, switchable automatic compression, five-way semi-parametric tone control, mono pre and stereo post tone control effects loops, stereo aux inputs, DI out with ground lift, headphone out, tuner out, and a thermostatically controlled fan."

I'm guessing the active EQ on the Stingray may provide a "hotter" input than my passive Yamaha and the pickups a cleaner signal, increasing gain (?)

I have never had an amp cab setup that got louder with an active bass than a passive bass could achieve. You should be able to just turn the gain up a bit and get more voume if its not loud enough. Does the input start overloading before it is loud enough?

On the WT-550, the input pad is engaged by pulling on the preamp Gain knob. Make sure the Gain didn't get pulled out. (probably not an issue)

I'm pretty sure the Enhance knob is primarily a mid-cut. You may want to try setting Enhance all the way off.

If you play hard does the level indicator light up? If yes, then you're getting a good strong signal on the preamp side.

I agree with you, on Eden's I always start with the EQ set flat.

If everything's good up to that point, just give it a little more volume on the Master level control until you get the volume you're expecting.

You could also try swapping your instrument cable and speaker cable just to check everything.
