I listen mainly to metal and rock
metalbands like: In flames, Iced Earth, Hammerfall, Dark tranquility, Arch Enemy, dream theater, Symphony X, Soilwork, Iron maiden, Type 'O negative,...

But I also like things like led zeppelin, Alice cooper, van halen, camden,...

I play a 2EQ stingray, Ibanez EDC700 (my first bass), warwick corvette (active one). I use a fender combo, but I'm GASsing for a new amp, MesaBoogie walkabout scout, or Ampeg rig.

While we're mentioning excellent bass players, I'll throw in Bryan Beller. Check out his View CD, which came out last year. Good stuff! He just finished up a gig with Steve Vai in Holland.

i am only 13 but i really wanna learn how to play the bass. any suggestions? what is the easiest bass to play? what is more common-4 string, or 5 string? i don't know a lot.

There is NO 'easy' bass to play.

You need to go to a store & try a few to see which is more comfortable. Don't spend megabucks at first (you might lose interest or switch instruments). Once you've been playing a while & feel you're ready to, you can spend more money on a better instrument/amplifier.

OLP Make good copies of Musicman basses for a good price.

You could also ask for advice on the Musicman Basses forum on this site.

Always A Beginner

I was lucky there was a major store that rented instruments and had a policy of helping musicians without much $$$ as long as they were honest ... a guitar player showed me a few things like a C major scale and then he introduced me to a professional bass player who helped me with a few sessions ... and after a few rentals I got lucky and found a dream used bass for $$$ I could afford to buy on time payents instead of rental ... and then I realized it was difficult getting good and consistent sounds like Lee Sklar, Tommy Shannon and Tony Levin never mind ripping like Jaco ... lots of frustration but the sessions with the pro helped me stay on course for a good left hand technique and a Jaco video provided endless inspiration and insight ... if you really want to play bass nothing will stop you ... even if you drop it a few times and even if it takes years ... now I'm learning to float with an SR5 fretless inspired by Tony Levin and that's pretty kool
