Bongo 5 or Stingray 5?

I am a current Stingray owner. I have a 4 string fretted and a 4 string fretless both 2006 models. I want to add a 5 string to the arsenal and was wondering if I should go with a Bongo or a Stingray. I love my Stingrays and play nothing else besides them. I like the classic look and styling of the Rays but was wondering if the Bongo's tone makes it worth the compromise. Advice?

There is no compromise with the Bongo. It's the best damn bass on the planet. Period.

Can you tell that I love Bongos? Personally I'd go with a Bongo. Add a little diversity to your arsenal and be ready for any situation.

Then again, loading up on SRs isn't a bad way to go either.

Not much help, I know, but when you're dealing with the best basses available, it's hard to choose.

Our guitar center never has both of them in stock so I can't try them both out side by side. I might just stick to what I know and get the SR5. Plus, it would be cool to have all Stingrays. I love them so I might as well stick to what I like already.

The SR5 is badass and a little more classic. But, I think the Bongo really provides an awesome modern sound. I just purchased an SR5 because I need it for more traditional styles (country, rock, etc) where a Bongo probably wouldn't be as appropriate. In Nashville, the SR5 is standard fare. It seriously depends on what you need it for. If you've got good shoulders, then the SR5 is my vote.

Nobody's kicked Jack off the Cowpilot stage yet for playing a Bongo (they might have for other reasons though)

I vote... erm... Get the Bongo now and get the SR5 later. There is always room for the entire line

If you play Stingrays, the SR5 is a nice "next step" into MM 5'ers. More tonal options, but still that nice and growl we love so much in our 4 banger SRs.

That being said....someday I will own a Bongo.

If you have two Stingrays you really should check our a Bongo. This will give you a wide range of sounds that should cover any type of sound you need to get.The Bongo eq is a very powerfull tool that can reproduce many different sounds.I can also confirm that the Bongo is a great recording bass having used it on many sessions over the last six months. I also play with a 10 piece rock band with a horn section and it cuts through that band with a defined bottom end that the sound guys love.
