Bongo color wishes

I would like to see other color options for Bongos. There are only a few colors that I would buy and really those aren't all that attractive. I can appreciate the fact that this bass is different but those color choices really suck IMO. Black, honey PDN, maybe candy red... is really all I care for and Im iffy on those. Are the colors based of BMW cars or something? Just wanted to voice this.... Im good with everything else about the bass design...I don't care what people say about the toilet seat thing..I actually like the design...I just would prefer more color combinations that aren't so "toy-like"..not sure how else to really express that.
 
I freaking want ebony fretboards on more things than the Stealth :). As far as body colors... not sure. I like my Silver 6HS, and I can't wait to see my red sparkle 5 HSp. I like lots of colors though and generally can find ones I like anywhere. I may end up with a blue bongo down the line at some point, so I'm hoping for some nice blues... cobalt blue would be ideal there.
 
Colours come and go. They generally go because they are not selling well. While black, sunburst, natural and white are not that exciting, you see them on most manufacturer's models because they sell.

Interestingly enough, you won't find white (very few), sunburst (with the exception of PDN's in mahogany) and natural on the Bongo. Apparently, basswood is not a very pretty wood, so that rules out natural and sunburst as well as other transparent body finishes and there were problems matching the neck and body with white, so it was discontinued early on.

I would like be happy with some of the stingray colors or classic white, bursts, naturals, other shades of current colors - faded..etc.

Yes, its true there have been some of these variations in the past but rare on the used market.

The current colors just seem "toy-like" to me. I'd even be happy with different shades of those current colors. Blue pearl, sky blue, tangerine orange?...they remind me of colors you'd decorate a baby's room with...not something I want on an $1800 bass. I want a classic white, or some faded color with ebony fretboard and a solid rosewood neck. Or sugar black with ebony fretboard... that burgundy they offered wasn't too bad. Maybe some of the stingray colors? A bass that innovative just seems to be held back by bizarre color combinations that don't appeal to MANY people. They are great basses ... with bad paint jobs for the most part. I've started to consider the stealth model but I just don't want a stealth...its almost the color option i hate least. The stealth hardware on a candy apple with ebony FB might look cool.
 
I usually get classic colours on basses. Check my sig.

However, with the Bongos, I went all out and got crazy bright colours. Tang Pearl/Sky Blue.

Thing is, they are VERY pretty colours. The bright colours really suit the Bongo shape.

I think the Bongo suits the more out there colours than any other model in the MusicMan line.

The problem is that for every person that wants a more subdued colour, there's another that wants something more flashy. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Personally, out of the existing colours, I'd go for either Blue Pearl or Candy Apple Red (with an abalone pickguard). They're not too boring or too over-the-top.
 
The Bongo shape to my eye is just too modern to work with a classic color. It screams different and exciting. I finally buckled down and pulled the trigger on an Emerald Green Sparkle 5 HH. I wasn't a fan of the color until I saw it on a Bongo. On top of different and exciting, it looks mean. Not as mean as Joe Greene but it is one mean green machine.
 
If you want a Bongo in a certain color, there is always a way. If the bass is a keeper, get it refinished. If it's not, what does it matter if you are going to get rid of it in the future?

This was originally sapphire black. Nice finish, but I had enough black basses and I wanted to get this done in dahpne blue honor of my son being born.

Not to say that I don't really love some of the limited palette of Bongo color options--if I had the cash, I'd have grabbed a Bongo 6HH in tangerine with a rosewood neck. Oh, well. Maybe next time.
 
I agree with bassmonkeee about getting it refinished. Then you'd have a one of a kind.
