Bongo config?

I played with my jazz group the other night for the first time with my Bongo 4HH. It sounded pretty good except when I soloed it was a bit "boomy". I had both pickups set even. I guess I need to cut the fb pickup more and try to figure out the preamp better.

Now the question:

Differences b/w the different configurations: H/S -- tone differences from the HH? Is this more tame with the S than the second H?

I don't think there's a way to split the coils like with the SR HH.

Single H -- I notice that there are 4 control knobs but the two tone knobs don't have the additional little knobs (sorry to get so technical <g>). I haven't played a single H so . . .

Try setting the EQ flat, with maybe a bit of low-mid boost. That cuts really well. It shouldn't be boomy.

I run my 5HH that way, with the pickups about 50/50. I do have a piezo, though, which is also in the mix at all times.

Re the knobs on the H....it's a different setup. It's got a 3-band EQ, while all of the dual-pickup models have a 4-band. (The stacked knobs on the 4-band are lo-mid/hi-mid, bass/treble...the bass/treble stack is the one closest to the tail of the bass,)

Oddly enough, the preamp on the H with the piezo option is four-band. Go figure.

My guess is that it is easier to throw in a 3 band on the singleH then redo the cnc for one less hole.

The 4-band has two sets of stacked pots, a pickup blend and a volume. Naturally the H doesn't need the blend knob....

You could do a 4-band EQ without a pickup blend knob by giving two of the bands their own knob and stacking the other two. Still four holes.

Whatever...by all accounts the H sounds awesome.

True but it wouldn't look as symmetrical. And I'm all about symmetry.
