So we're half-way through rehearsal earlier this evening at a local studio... Been playing real loud and the band is coming back from a 5 minute break...

I reach for the Bongo for the first time, in preparation for the next tune - John Cougar's version of Wild Night... I start pounding out the opening riff...

My guitarist looks up, smiles and says: "Man, I love the way that thing growls!"

Unfortunate translation from over here.

In Dutch that "growl" is called the "knoor" ... which translates into snore, or snort like a pig, ... grunt ...so imagine your reaction if the guitarist had looked up up and said "Man your guitar sounds like a pig grunting" .. I almost bopped the first one who said that to me ... until he (very quickly) explained ...

ah well .. 'slife I guess.

HeHeHeHe .. I knew a cuple of those definitions before, but that dictionary definitely got bookmarked ... It's the ultimate "queens to universal" English translation aid.

A lot better than "How to speak Strine" any day ... smaller than the Encyclopedia Galactica, cheaper than the Gelestial Homecare Omnibus, and considerably easier to read than Oolong Kalufids Trilogy of Philosophical Blockbusters, "Where God Went Wrong", "Some more of God's Greatest Mistakes", and "Who is this God Person Anyway" . ... oops .. HHGG slipping out though thr cracks ... time for more tea .. crank up the Nutrimatic ...

'tis a beast for sure!

My guys (three f*nder playing guitarists) all loved it from the moment it showed up - the look, the sound, the whole package! :D

"the whole package!"

You got a package with yours??!!!....hmmm:p
Mines just came with minor scratches, greasy fingerprints, and tired batteries .... courtesy of various GC clearance sales

I got a rock.

A bag of tiny porous, moisture-absorbing rocks, that is. ;)

I'm working on Bongo #2 with Jack as we speak (although Old Toe has #1):

Candy Red (H) w/White Ice PG; fretted.

Wish 'Build An Instrument' covered Bongos, so I could post a pic...

...hint, hint. ;)
