Bongo Stealth Question

I'm curious about the finish on Bongo Stealth metal parts. Is this a black chrome type finish or flat black chrome? It's really hard to tell from the few pictures I have seen.
Finally, are they any issues of this coating flaking off? Thanks for any and all replies.

Oxymoron....no such thing as flat chrome. Ever seen a flat chrome bumper on a car?

The only two choices AFAIK are paint or an oxide (Parkerized?) finish...probably paint, but I don't know. A black oxide finish would be much cooler and (I think) more durable.

So? What's the deal, o wise and powerful Oz?

I'm not sure what you mean by black chrome or flat black chrome. The stealth hardware is black, and it's not really shiny, so "black" and "flat" are reasonably descriptive, but "chrome" is right out. I've had my stealth Bongo for about 10 months and have not seen any flaking of the hardware finish. I'm still a huge fan of the stealth look after living with it for a while.

AFAIK you can only anodize aluminum. That's "aluminium" for you Queen's English speakers.

Steel requires either paint, bluing (as on a gun) or an oxide finish called "Parkerizing."

There may be other types of finishes I'm not aware of.

I have a set of Fe#@er "black chrome" one off Jazz ashtrays. I think Jack hadem for a bit...not really "black". They're in a box somewhere.

Powder coating is a possibility. Our guitarist owns a powder coating business, and I've seen the process/results first hand. I've told him many times he should branch out and do colored guitar/bass hardware.
