This has frustrated me beyond measure. No, really...

I've been trying to find a decent string gauge for a 25.5" 7 string scale guitar that allows me to keep the tones nice and tight when I'm downtuned to A. Meaning, I'm tuning to A, D, G, C, F, A, D.

Who else does this? The legions of Korn, Meshuggah, blah blah blah metalhead fans. They're (Munky, at least) using D'Addarios which offer the 10 to 59 gauge. How on eath they get their tones that tight, I have no clue. I can't seem to get it, using the same gauge. Yet after searching around, no one else produces a gauge that's more suitable. And even the DAs aren't completely suited for that.

What would be nice on a 25.5" scale, for players who are used to playing 10s (like me), and want to detune to A or even just Bb on their 7 strings (like me) would be an 11 to 62 gauge stainless steel set. Otherwise, intonation aside, the floppiness produces a whole other slew of problems (like warbling bass output on the low strings when picked too hard). or having a really soft string B string when you press too hard.

PLEASE come up with a solution? The many fans of heavy low end guitars would worship you!!!!;):p:D

Or at least you know I would...

Some 7 String Beefy Slinky strings would be pretty cool to see.

I've been known to drop my 7 strings to A and a little extra girth in the low B would be helpful.

Sorry to go a little off topic here but, are stainless steel strings better for Metal? What's the tradeoff?

No trade off, as far as I'm concerned. I love how the SS sets sound and feel. They seem to feel tighter than the nickel wound or titanium sets. I guess the drawback for me would be that they would wear the frets a wee bit faster than the nickel wound sets?
