man I have been posting here alot lately but I have a serious ?

I want to get another brandnew MM Ray so I'm wondering are the brandnew Musicmans as good as the older ones or should I go for a certain year or serial number?

I want to get a sunburst stingray with maple neck to match my golden with rosewood. these basses are addictive..
 
Quality control for MM basses is top-notch. I haven't had extensive experience with vintage models, but all the modern MM basses I've played were great. The vintage v. modern thing has been addressed a few times before and the result turned up to be a tie. That is, MM basses, regardless of time period, rock! :D

I own one from 2000 & one from 2004 & both are great. From what I've been told the newer ones are better than the older ones. (OK--don't crucify me now)
When I personally look at used ones, I try to get ones w/ the plastic pop up battery holder--that's how I know one is somewhat newer.
 
I own a 2000 model and my cousin owns a 1994 model. They both play, feel and sound exactly the same.
 
A just purchased a new Sterling a little over a month ago and I can tell you the quality is A+. Fit and finish is top shelf. :)
 
okay cool, I was worried about ordering one and never getting to play it or see it first. as always thank you for the posts.
 
I sell new MM's at a shop in Richmond VA and I can tellyou that the new stuff far surpasses the consistancy of the older Rays which I love. THe fret work and fit and finish on the EB MM stuff that comes through our shop is on par with the high end Anderson, PRS and Lakland stuff we get in. The proof is in the short amount of time that the stuff stays in our shop. Last Friday we got in a New Honeyburst SR5 and it stayed in the shop for a whole 1 hour and 45 minutes before it was sold. The other bass that came in with it lasted until Saturday! THis stuff is smokin hot man. Trust me. ;)
 
Recently bought a SR5. Build quality is the best I've seen in a production bass. Makes alot of other basses look/feel effeminate by comparison imo.
 
Coming up on a year of my EBSR5 living in Kansas. Played outside mostly. I definitely know it is rock solid in QC. They outdo themselves with every new bass they build. Can't find better any where for any price.

Hi everybody! This is my first post. Just bought a new Bongo HH 5-string yesterday. Compared to the 1990 SR5 that I used to own, the Bongo is every bit as good if not better in terms of build quality. Before I decided on the Bongo, I played a Warwick Thumb Bass, A nice Spector, and a Warrior Bass (very expensive). The Bongo had the tone I wanted, and the neck felt more comfortable in my hand. I couldn't be more happy with my new Bongo!

When you guys buy/order Stringray 4's, are you getting the 2 band or 3 band eq's?

Hey Doug - if I were going to order another Stingray 4, I would personally prefer the two-band because I think the bottom end is a litle tighter.

But the truth is that I've played/owned numerous examples of both 2 and 3 band Stingrays and ain't nobody here or anywhere else can tell the diff in a loud bar band situation.

Thanks! I'll take some photos this weekend and post a couple of them. I couldn't put her down last night. Good thing I'm single or there'd be trouble in the house!
 
Interesting... I've always been drawn to a single pick-up and minimal "on guitar" control. Couldn't hold all that versatility against the Sterling, though. ;)

I do move the switch (sometimes!) depending on my mood and the effects I might be using, but that's it. All three bands are always at their indent... Don't care to change them.

Just me... :rolleyes:
