I have never felt the need to anchor my right thumb and think it looks kind of silly.....but it is a rather elegant solution to the problem.

it is although I never felt the need to do that, my tumb rests on my PU, or just nowhere

It is a really look. I like it. Wouldn't do me any good though. I rest my thumb on the top string except when I'm playing that string.
