Checking authenticity of a stingray 3eq im about to purchase

Im about to buy a 2nd hand musicman stingray 3eq bass and was wondering if you could check the serial number E76178 to see if its an authentic musicman stingray, its a lot of money to spend if its not the real mccoy.
