cleaning ebony?

how do you clean some fretmarks your flatwound left on your fretboard?

I'm having a hard time grasping fretmarks on a fretless bass but in any event I use 004 steel wool.

do we need to put any substances on it? like fretboard lemon oil etc? will it hurt the ebony though?

You can buy the steel wool at a hardware store. In terms of cleaning and nourishing an ebony fingerboard, plain orange oil or lemon oil will do the trick.

He's from the Bay Area. And that is compounded by his being a basser. I'd cut him some slack on language and communication stuff.

I suppose he means string scuffing. I'd use nose grease. If you don't have enuf on your own, check the drummer. The marks are from flatwounds, which may or may not indicate a left hand deathgrip, but that's worth considering and correcting if needed. The question *is* kindof unclear.
