Question Cleaning neck on Stingray

Been playing on a Stingray for a few years and it has built up a pretty ugly blackness on the neck Nothing serious and I think it gives it character, but I know it need to be maintained as it is wood and all :) Any suggestions? Is lemon oil really that bad for maple necks? Or is very fine steel wool the best. I have good luck with that, but I know it needs to be oiled after that.

There's a FAQ on this somewhere. It has to do with using gunstock oil and wax. Read it before you do anything, the results of this method are amazing.
 
You can get the gunstock oil and wax from Cabella's. But follow the Ernie Ball MM suggestions...not the package directions. The main difference is how long you leave the oil on before wiping it off...don't leave it on too long, just a short while and then wipe off. follow up with just a bit of wax, not too much. If you slap on on whole bunch of gunstock oil and wax, it will be all sticky.
