Cutlass and Caprice sound clip

Listen to how much more solid, seamless, and "grunty" in the lowest register the Cutlass is than a PB -- even the PBs with the top-shelf pickups like the '62 CS and the Pure Vintage 63, both of which I own. Almost has a bit of a Sabre flavor to it down there.

What we don't know is how much of that is the instrument and how much is signal processing. I'd sure like to know what was in the signal chain when this was made.

They sound great big poppa, lovely even tone across the board and a they have that quality of tone that we've come to expect from musicman.

attached is a little diddy I recorded
-not mastered
-one take
-done very quickly
they are recorded direct with no compression
straight into pro-tools
I think it shows they record well

Cutlast is full volume tone rolled off 10% ( FAT ! )

Caprice is both pickups wide open 1st half -- 2nd half - back full- front off about 60%
tone rolled off a bit

That makes the tone (and playing) in these clips that much more impressive - both basses have a very "finished" sound to them. If you had told me that had been recorded through a nice DI, compressed and mastered, I wouldn't have questioned it in the least. Very curious to try one of these out in the wild.

will the caprice come out as a five string? You will have my money if you do (I have been saving for a jazz style fiv'er with musicman spacing for years: my dream bass)

Every musicman bass ive had (2 stingrays, a sub5 and my latest sterling 5HH) have sounded amazing when DI'd, amazing all round sound without the need for a big rig.
