This was a customer's guitar that was damaged in transit (mistreated by the shipping company) from here to there.... The shipping company returned it to me so I could asses the damage (heh I just said ass es)

I'm guessing it fell off a 2nd story belt in a sorting warehouse at least once, and landed neck first. They must have then decided to treat it equally, so for good measure it was also dropped it rightside up once or twice.

I've never seen damage like this before. The headstock suffered the brunt of the force, and the neck pocket reflects the damage. The box it was shipped in has ALL the corners rounded on it, and it looks like a washboard.

The guitar case and neck both suffered serious damage along with the body, so the whole thing needs to be replaced.

Fortunately, I was able to locate an identical replacement JP on ultra short notice, so the customer is very happy (Thanks Dargin!). Also, the shipping company is honoring my claim, bringing a happy ending to what could have been a very messy situation.

Just thought I would share how my day has been so far :D

Yes, but did it develop any stress cracks? :D

Just kidding!

Wow.. that poor guitar really took a beating! I guess that kind of thing happens now and then.. I'm glad to hear they aren't giving you a hard time about the claim. (I don't see how they'd have a leg to stand on anyway..)

This terrifies me because I've got a long-awaited Y2D in transit as we speak!

No stress cracks here, and this thing got HOUSED! The so-called "stress crack issue" isn't as frequently occuring as people make it out to be, thanks to the wonder of the internet, although it does suck having them happen to any guitar.

Steve, if you have any issues with your y2d, lemme know... I've got an identical one in transit from SLO... ps I can ship it FedEx if that gets your rocks off ;)

Is that the worst of the damage done? Is it still playable? Is it for sale?
I am taking it apart now to examine the full extent of the damage... This axe won't be for sale, I am afraid :(

Maybe I should set it on fire in my barn, along with all my other equipment, and then send it back to EB for warranty like Tony did? :D

There's no way for that piezo bridge and all the electronics associated with it to somehow fall off the table and find its way here;) ;)

Wow ... what a disaster! Well, it's bound to happen from time to time. I've shipped computers to all corners of the earth for work with a wide variety of couriers, and eventually all of them have f***ed up.

Looks like it'd be a great piece of art ... the first guitar on the "wall of shame" ...

I'll take my chances. I once watched UPS literally throw 12 computers + 12 monitors down a flight of steps... from one guy to another.. down the hall from my former office.

Unfortunately for them, the computers were being delivered to me. I had to send 3 back for replacement, re-insert video cards into 4 others (which had come out from violent handling), and had to return 6 monitors which were DOA.. some even cracked. UPS took a big hit on that one.

More often, with UPS, I've had stuff just go missing and never show up at all. I've got many, many UPS horror stories. I'm sure all carriers have them, but mine are all with UPS. I've never had a single problem with FedEx (or DHL, but they're kinda 'new').

Anyway, I've received undamaged goods from UPS on occasion, too... :D

Insurance is a must when shipping anything of value. I am glad it is being replaced hassel free. Dargin found the quick replacement?

Oh man, Don't worry about it. We'll take care of it.
That is so true.

Instead of worring about it I find it's better to just be thankful!
