Don't ban me from EB Forum after my idea!

I've got two EBMM's an Albert Lee and a Silo Special. The Silo's neck is perfect for me. I have a permanently injured ring finger (caught my ring on a bolt and almost ripped it off) and have small hands to begin with. Its amazing how much faster I can play and how much more I can do on the Silo than on any other guitar including the AL. But I love the sound of the Albert. Would it be possible to somehow have a reputable luthier shave the neck of the AL to the neck specs of the Silo Special? I know some of you are cringing but would appreciate your input. Thanks!

First of all, allow me to offer you little "ban" support. For some unknown reason, there are a few other forums that want ban me all the time ;)

Second, I don't think your idea is that crazy. Nothing wrong with liking a guitar but not as much the neck carve. Keep in mind that the tone will change once the neck is shaved down significantly.

As far as who could do it, I'd recommend Jack Gretz at Magdon's Music. He's a great luthier as well as a EBMM pusher and has shaved the necks of many PRS guitars.

What!?!?!?!!? You want to mod a guitar so it feels right to you!?!?! Blasphemy!!

Man, there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever.....it's yours, do what you will. Tommyindelaware might know someone who could do this for you...Tommy?

BTW, keep up the playing....sorry to hear about your finger, but it is nice to know you are still persistent enough to continue to play.

i thought those necks are the same ?????

c shape.....
1 &5/8th" at the nut.....
2 &1/4 " at the 22nd fret......

The back carves are actually quite different, despite both being described as "C" shaped... In fact, I would call the AL more of a "D" shape, or even a very soft "V" shape :)

As for shaving the neck, it's your guitar, do whatever you want to it... EBMM's are working instruments, not wall-hangings. Mod it, beat it, PLAY IT!! ;)

Thing is, I never hated her because she was beautiful, I hated her because she kept repeating that phrase, constantly, every 10 minutes when I'd watch TV.

Wish I had enough time to take myself out on a date..

I just hated her for her saying "...because I'm beautiful", I mean geez, how cheeky and immodest

I just watched her on mute (like how I watch the chicks on Country Music Television) :D

WTF are you guys talking about? i guess that commercial wasnt on during Beavis and Butthead. LOL

as far are the neck goes ... dude, go nuts! its your guitar ... if someone can do a clean job and you'll end up happier (and playing more) then that's awesome; that's what its all about.

what kinda wackoo would go carving on a ebmm neck ?????????

Hahahaha ... what kind of wacko indeed .... umm, tommy, check your mailbox tomorrow morning for a Morse neck ... hahahaha .... :D

Hey Ed-

Normally I'm in the camp of mess with it, but you really are taking a risk with this. The other thing to keep in mind is that the profiles of those two necks are very similar, and carving isn't an exact science. So it's likely that you're not going to get exactly what you want. Of course, you may totally love it and I hope you do.

If you're going for "thinner" or "rounder" it may work out, however I doubt if you'll get the exact profile you're looking for. If you literally want the silo spec profile on the AL, you might be good to try and find a beat up Silo Spec on eBay and see about swapping the necks.

Either way- good luck!

Actually, if you ship it off to Big Poppa, he'll carve it himself AND add more birdseye to it under warranty!

.......................KIDDING!! :D
