EBMM Sterling with 2tek bridge

I saw a 2tek ad from the 90's where Michael Anthony has a gold sparkle (I think) Sterling with a 2tek bridge. I wonder if htat was retrofit or if EBMM put those on his basses?

I remember those 2teks were pretty hyped for a couple of years, but I have never even seen one in the flesh (metal).

I've seen a pic of Flea in a Leather Jacket/Lakers vest combo and green hair with a black 'Ray (with a 'crunch' sticker) that has an aftermarket bridge on it. Kinda similar to the 2tek, but the 'channel' for the string (upper side of body) is longer.

Anyone?

PS - have been over-descriptive to help pin the picture down!

I know exactly which bass you're describing. I read in a Guitar Player (or similar)interview that Flea had issues with stock SR bridge saddles and having strings slip off them. He was like "just slap on a Bad-ass bridge." It's weird 'cause you can see the big holes on the outside of the bridge where the old bridge's giant screw anchors used to be,
They're like covered up halfway by the Bad-ass.

The Crunch Bass can also be seen in the Psychedelic Sexfunk Live From Heaven video.

I installed a 2-tek bridge on my fender jazz bass a few years ago myself. I did not have the instructions but it turned out great. The sound difference is worth the effort. Unbelievable sustain and tone to it. I would install one to any bass no matter what the make or price range. They are fully adjustable for intonation.

As far as I know 2tek bridges are not made anymore. It was back in the 90's if I remember right. They won some sort of innovative award from Bass Player Mag. One of those year in review rewards. Then the next year someone from 2tek contacted Bass Player and told them that production had ceased due to lack of demand. That was the last I have ever read on 2tek. I think due to the weight and the major mod to the bass they were doomed to fail. The Hamer Cruise bass was the only production bass I can think of that used that bridge. Hope that helps.

IMO, the 2-Tek is nice bridge. I had the 4 and 5 string first version models. They're also very heavy and I sold the 5 string bridge because of the weight.

I still have the 4 string in an Allparts P body. But it's still heavy even with the aluminum back plate I made for it to replace the heavier OEM plate.

Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased a new/old 1995 Hamer Cruise Bass 5 With a 2TEK bridge. I got it from one of the original owners/manufacturers of the 2TEK bridges. As it turns out, the 2TEK company is right in my back yard. Mike still produces the bridges for a few high end luthiers but, he says anyone can buy them. In my opinion, they are one of the best bridges ever made. I love mine!
