One would assume that EMG single coils will sound great in any MusicMan guitar since they sound so 'right-on' in a Luke...

So the question is:

Has anybody tried EMG single coils in an Al, Slhouette or an Axis Sport sss..???

I have never tried them in any other EBMM guitars but have put them in almost everything else. I really like the 85 in the bridge and 60 in the neck if it is a humbucker. If it has single coils I like the SAV the best followed closely by the SLV. Then the rest are equal, allright but nothing special.

I currently have an extra SAV from a guitar I sold recently if anyone needs to try one out.

I dont like the 81 in the bridge but never tried it in the neck but doubt it would be better than the 60. The 60A is allright in the bridge if you want a little more of a classic tone but really if you just turn down the 85 it will do the same but it has better harmonics and drive!

Hope this helps but if I need to go into greater detail just ask and I will try.

I just got the grey one back from the luither today. Here's what I did:
Bridge to neck
89 SA 85
The always on coil of the 89 is away from the bridge and split via a push pull volume pot. Then I had a switch changed out so that the 5 way toggle is (again bridge to neck)
1. Bridge
2. Bridge and middle
3. Middle
4. Bridge and Neck
5. Neck
OMG that's just like Steve Morse's y2d

The other 2 (3 if you count the one that was stolen) were
85 SA 89
The active coil on the 89 again to the middle. The Push pull volume pot for splitting the 89. The 5 way was as usual B BM M MN N
and an extra toggle to activate the bridge no matter what the 5 way is set to.
OMG that's just like Steve Morse's regular guitar

I really like the sound and feel of EMG's in my SiLO's

Have you ever tried a 60 in the neck?

I have always been so thrilled with the 85 that I never even considered a 60. That may be my fault.

What do you think of the 89? I always liked it but still like the 85 better in the bridge. It always semmed a little brighter to me but I may be hearing things.

The 89 is an 85 with coil splitting capabilities. This is the first time I have put an 89 in the bridge and frankly I haven't even plugged it in yet. I should play guitar today.

I dont think the 89 is an 85 just similar in tone.

EMG-89

Inside the EMG-89 pickup are both single and dual-coil pickups, each with its own output. The single-coil mode is an Alnico loaded stacked EMG-SA. The dual-coil mode consists of two Alnico loaded coils opposite one another creating a pickup similar to the EMG-85. A push/pull volume or tone enables you to switch from the clarity of a single-coil to the fatness of a humbucking. Virtually noiseless in both modes, it can also be used with several EMG accessories...

OK That's the word.
