Sorry, Mr. Barr, but I think this is a keeper. What a stunning bass! And the sound! Oh, the sound! It's very live unplugged, so I noodled for a while. Then I plugged it in. I must admit, it took a bit to get used to a 2 band EQ. First, there are no detents, because I guess there is no cut...or if there is, I don't know what is exactly half way. I hope I'm doing it right, but basically, for that growly, almost Jaco-ish finger tone, I'm "boosting" bass to about "2" and treble to about "4." For slap tone, boosting both to about "7". Does that sound right? It will take me a bit to learn how to get "my sound" but I KNOW it is lurking in there.

If anyone has some advice on the 2 band EQ, let me know.

The proof will be doing some live stuff with it without my amp. I will do pix when I take some of another bass (not a MusicMan) that I'm now selling.

I'm glad you like it! It's a kickass bass that deserves a patient fellow like yourself. Right now I'm chuckling over how you asked me "It's been there that long??!?!? Does it have any dead strings?"

Strings dont go dead if you hide them :D

***idea - maybe I will hide a 30th Ray or two

Well, I am glad you hid the bass. You knew a treasure when you saw it. So, how many times was Red Hot Chili Peppers played on the thing? ;-) Seriously, it's incredible. I'm glad to have it. I need to get used to a four so I can gig with it!

Just keep the crunchy kleenex off the cases - contrary to what you may believe, no-one wants that "mojo" of yours on their bass :)

LOL....that reminds me...I need to go to the lab and "provide samples" to make sure the vasectomy took next week.

I'm one of those that likes the 2-band Stingrays most. I set my control knobs up so that the screw is pointing up at the halfway point. That makes it easy to know where you're at w/o the center detents. (It probably comes that way from the factory, but I've never bought a brand new 2-bander, so I wouldn't know)

I set the bass knob about 30-50% past halfway
I start with the treble knob pointing straight up, then give a slight increase or decrease as needed.
