Envy Green

I found a picture of a stringray in envy green and thought I'd share it with you all.

My digital camera is apparently traveling around town with my wife today or I'd already be shooting some photos of the Green Hornet Bongo.

That looks like the color, though, on that Stingray. I figured it would be a lot GREENER, but it's more like a Hunter Green Metallic.

Plays like a mofo. Got the TI Flats on it last night and played it for a few hours....man, what great basses these Bongos are!

I gotta tell ya... seeing that bass makes me want to do crazy things like sell other basses just to get a bongo in that color.

OK, a string question. I currently use Elixirs on one SR4 & Elites Stadium Stainless on the other (SR4). Someone once said I should use Nickel, preferably flats.

So what do you guys think works best for you. Another thread seems to disregard Elixirs as worthwhile and I'm concernd that maybe I've been less concerned with my sound than I should be and I could sound better.

Strings are the easiest - and sometimes cheapest - way to make a real change to your sound. I think what sort of string depends, of course, on what sort of tone you're looking for.

Modern, bright, heavy rock and roll? Snap and pop jazz? Then flats are not for you.

But if what you want is old-school thump and thud with maximum midrange clarity to keep it from sounding like mud, then you should try flats. My faves are the TIs, although some of the LaBella flats are excellent, too.

Thanks for the string advice. I think I'll stay at least for now with rounds. Did try nickel once or twice but prefer stainless (I also sweat buckets so they are better for me).

I've much talk of TI Flats, what are the diffrences between TI and Regular Slinkys for an SR5. I'm on the vurge of buying a new set of strings for my SR5.

what sort of tone you're looking for.

Nice to see the "t" word creep in here ... for me these daze it's about stock roundwound Slinkys on SR5 Fretless / Piezo ... at lower volume levels (ie very small, intimate club) ... ethnic, folk, acoustic blues, oldstyle country, classical, ... it's Pure Romance ... with SWR Workingman's 12 it's smooth, brightish and punchy ... with TE250/1518, it's full, warm, phat, smooth and verry sexy ... there's somethin' about these available electro-uprightish swell tones that send shivers up and down all the right places, yet we can snap, growl and szing with just a slight twitch of the fingers ... all amp settings as flat as possible /Rayan

I want to say what I hear and that is just a little deeper bass with very good mids. Thump like flats should give, but also a little more mids and highs than what traditional flat wounds offer. The TI flats are just smooth feel good under the fingers and sound to the liking of any old school bass player. IMHO
