Question EQ settings for Bongo 4 string Single H

Hi…

I have this Bongo on the way and scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.. Already got my DOB in the Sticky..

I hope my question is ok.. I did search and even read through the FAQ’s

I would like just a real basic understanding of the 4 controls on this setup and maybe a good starting point to set them at and then which ones to change the tones etc..

I know on this setup they are Vol, Treb, Mid, and Bass..

Which ones of these 4 will I use the most to experiment with so as to try out all the great Tons the Bongo can produce?

Volume . . . you'll probably use it the most.

I just got a single H Bongo and I find that with everything set flat (center detent) it just sounds great. You may want to try boosting the bass a smidge or the mids a little bit. A little goes a long way.
 
Thanks Freddels.. That sounds easy enough.. I cant wait to get my hands on mine.. I played around with a few at some local music stores but did not mess with any of the settings much..

Hey ivbenaplayin.. I just notcied in your Sig you have the Sky Blue one.. That is the same color I picked.. With the White PickGuard.. It looks beautiful..
 
The Bongo H sounds great a variety of ways and is really easy to dial in. Personally I like to boost the bass about 20% and I reduce the mids and treble each about 20%. But it also depends on your strings, amp and playing styles.

I also highly recommend Ernie Ball Cobalt strings on the Bongo H.

Yeah, Freddels pretty much said it.

On mine I hardly ever touch the bass ( a little goes a VERY VERY long way ).

I do turn the treble down quite often.

Mids are your friend.

Two tips if you don't do these things already:

- When messing with EQ, stand as far away from your amp as possible. You want to hear what the audience hears, not the off-axis stuff you normally hear.

- If you're playing with others, listen to the whole band, not just yourself. That's what's important. I find that what makes a lot of songs sound really great in a band setting seems really awful when playing by myself.
 
All depends about Your rig, ...possible PA support and the venue where You're gonna play!

Always start with bass preamp EQ flat (center click position), ...rise gain on Your rig and master volume until sounds loud enough, ...than tweak a little bit with Your Bongo 3 band EQ how do You like the best, ...never maximize EQ, ...better cut what bother than over boost what You feel that is missing!

this is very good advice to follow... if you play smaller rooms, boosting the bass makes really loud mud pies... if you get to play some big outdoor gigs, it has been told that boosting the bass will tip over large RV campers full of people (credit: bovinehost - but seriously true). As to the color, it is a matter of several opinions around here that "orange basses are better"... but I can give personal accolades that sky blue sounds pretty damn good. :p) Congrats again on becoming a bongoloid!
 
Thanks guys for all your good input.. It is much appricated.. Believe it or not I am a beginner.. Been using a friends bass(Not a Bongo) and loving it... So he told me to get my own(LOL) I decided after much research, reading going to music stores and trying it, and Youtube videos on the Bongo. I love the feel of it in my hands and the sound on the ones I heard in person and on Youtube.. So the Bongo is my "Beginners" bass..

you have made a decision that is wise beyond your bass-playing years... seriously...
 
Bass, Mid, Treble... flat. This is my normal setup. I occasionally tinker with the mid control up or down depending on my mood, and only turn the bass up to annoy my neighbors. JOSH
 
On mine, I have everything set at 50% or flat. Every now and then I will make fine adjustments from there but most of the time I just leave it as I like the sound the best.
 
Hi there. I found this old thread. Today is a special "new bass day". Just purchased a stunning Neptune Blue Bongo 5H (the only one that was obviously available in German stores). It is a stunning bass. Really dig the neck and I think it is a great brother to my ARWN Bongo 5 HH. Just two questions:
- Does anybody know the frequencies of the eq bands? And
- Why has the single H model a 3-band EQ vs a 4-band EQ on the HH and HS-models? (Consider this an academic question. I am just curious!).
 
Single H Bongo got H pickup at so called sweetspot position, so 3 band eq is just right for it, no need for a 4 band.

As far as I remember center frequencies are 40Hz bass +/-18dB (boost/cut), 600Hz middle, 6.5 kHz treble.

I had the same question a while back so I sent an email to EBMM support to ask them and they provided me with this info.

Yep, ...stu42, ...I received the same graph from EBMM customer support, only with the black background, but values are the same!
