For some reason the gigs are getting further and further from my home (and sadly for less $) - anyway, ever had one of those nights where you sound like crap on stage but step a few feet away and everything sounds awesome? My rig blew tonight on stage - got to the stage edge and it was incredible - shades of "THE" open house sound (and yes - the speakers are in phase and no it wasn't the mains doing the work). Just strange.
 
What about you have a great night playing wise and nobody cares? Then you play the worst you've ever played and people comment that you where great? That's always a weird feeling.

To be honest, I don't know which pisses me off more...the apathy or the BS...

...either way, they aren't listening. But on the other side of the 'compliments', maybe they really did enjoy the show, despite the f/ups...so I guess I can't be mad in that respect.

i botched a Rancid cover at my bands last gig a week ago! the rest of the show was super good but i was fixated on that "bad" song, super pissed at myself etc ... then a couple "non punk rock" people id never met walked up to me afterwards and commented on how much fun they had watching us: "i havent been to a punk show in years and i had a blast!" ... then i felt all better and gave em free CDs :)
 
I always get a kick out of this phenomenon. Most people don't have a clue when it comes to music, especially Cajun music. I've played with some really crappy bands (still do sometimes), and it always seems that the worse the music is, the more compliments we get! I've played gigs on the fiddle in which we had a rhythm guitar & accordion as the only other instruments, and had a very old, poor-quality drum machine keeping rhythm. The rhythm guitar was overwhelmingly loud & sounded like somebody was beating on a garbage can. People would still come up & say, "Oh, y'all sound great! I enjoyed it very much." :rolleyes: All you can do is politely say, "Thank you." :D

I have actually got stuck into friends who say you sounded great.. when you know that you didn't!!!! It really frustrates me.... I really expect friends to be honest... but yeah I guess there are times when they genuinely did think you sounded ok!!!
