Got this of off mike portnoys forum, don't know if it's floating somewhere here on the forum (if it is i apologize for the double post). Just thought it was kinda interesting and sad how this legend has totally destroyed his life, the abusive lifestyle is definately haunting him in his latter yrs. Granted its just my opinion after watching a couple of videos, but i think it goes beyond not sleeping well the night b4. I kept ignoring his playing to say wow this dude is a wreck. I'm not much of a fan of evh, he's a great technician but was never my cup of tea when it came too bands, and playing. Either way check em out, and post your opinions...am i crazy in what i'm saying?

wow... i have always been a huge fan of EVH, throught all the crap that's happened over the last 20 years or so with Van Halen, and i can't believe how much of a decline he's taken. i mean, i would have hoped after dealing with tongue and mouth cancer that he'd have had the sense to quit smoking, but it looks like that's not the case. hope he gets in a better state down the road.

That's sad to watch. Twilight of a (guitar) god, how the mighty are fallen, etc. So they've copied his iconic guitar - so what? What next - a Valerie Bertinelli model?!? Scrape the barrel some more!

Yeah this thread won't last long, l've seen those videos, they're just the same licks he's played over a million times before. I've never really been a Van Halen fan, l mostly listen to Van Halen cause of Sammy Hagar.

But 25-30 K for a guitar, it's just not funny anymore, I thought the charvel EVH model was a joke.

Anyway, l'll prefer a BFR Luke.

Scott.

nobody is bashing EVH in the least, at least in my interpretation. it seems the collective vibe is more one of sadness, and wishing he'd get things pulled back together. it's a shame to see anyone in any sort of decline, particularly such an influential figure. we're all human... here's to EVH getting things turned around.

Sad and uncomfortable to watch ....

this guy was a great pioneer of electric rock guitar, one of the reasons I started learning to play, and the first 2 VH albums are still very high on my list of the greatest rock albums of all time.

He does come across as coherent from time to time but he does seem to be a bit out to lunch. Give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to nerves. A polished public speaker he is not.

Either way, I would have been p*$$ed if I was the Fender genious that signed the EVH deal and has to watch that launch! Painful.

Imagine.... $25k x 300 guitars, plus amps and whatever else you can slap a EHV logo on. That is some serious dough.

BTW, EVH playing was very unimpressive IMO.

Leave the man alone, nobody deserves this.

Somebody please lock this.
+ 1. mate. Moreover BP told he's no welcome here any more. Hope he find his way back, though. It's no good to read bad comments on a guy with problems, let him leave and play whatever he wants. Him and Lucious are my 2 heroes.

I realize that no one meant any harm by posting those vids and the subsequent comments, but let's remember that Ed isn't just an icon. He's a person with family and friends and a history with some of the people here.

Weren't you waiting for me to close it?

Jack
