I am thinking of jumping the gun and ordering my MM now rather than waiting until I have earned it, or even deserve it. My issue is this: When I go to the site of my normal dealer, they have two different models with the same title, the ONLY difference I can see is the color of pickguard. But, for all I know, this could be an indication of other differences, as well.

The one that seems like the more current instrument is an "In Store" item, and I want one that nobody has touched since the factory. How I ensure that is what I get? I do not have any qualms with using another dealer, though I like the extended protection offered where I normally shop.

Any insight would be appreciated.

The ONLY way to obtain a never touched by anyone but you instrument, is to order one through your dealer. Wait approximately 3-4 months. Then make sure your dealer does NOT open the box.

I guess I was/am hoping to find out that somebody has them in stock at their warehouse. This may just be another good reason to be patient and order later.

Yeah, both of the ones I am referring to aer the Classic model, which has mutes, and a two and eq. It also has a nicely figured neck. The model with the three band eq is substantially less money, and has a plain maple neck, and is nor designated as a Classic. At least this is true where I have been scouring for info.

There is no info at all about instrument specs. I guess you should ask the seller. But flamed maple neck is much more kick ass for me personally)

Looks like both of it is classic 2band with lesser neck radius. I guess that is the main difference compared to the 3band one after the preamp. So it is just the matter of finish and neck material if we're talking about these two

I agree on the Flamed Maple. There is also a roasted option, but I am new to the scene and not sure if that is for me. I am not expecting to find anyone at GC who can tell me the ins and outs of those two models with any certainty. I wish they had a "Bass Builder" program like most drum companies do now. You'd go on, and chose your body, neck, fretboard finishes, electronics, etc and it would give you a MAP price, and you'd send the Unique ID number to your dealer to get it ordered. I could run up a hell up a tab in a hurry.

They are all great. I've got my MMSR5 with no knowledge about it's features at all and it is perfect for me. EBMM gives precise info about their instruments. Just read it carefuly and concider which one suits you best.

There are tons of retailers you can always choose. And do not forget to post some pics of your beast when you will get it)

Order from Bass Central or Bass Northwest. Tell them of your
puzzlement, and they will set you right, order your bass, and
the price will be toadally competitive. Part of your puzzlement
talking to GC staff is that GC has it's own less expensive type
of USA-built 2-band "Classic". It has GC-unique custom classic
colors, 2-band EQ, mutes, but has ordinary necks and IIRC all
finishes for "GC Classics" are opaque.

Bass NW and Bass Central are at exactly opposite corners of
the USA mainland, and are the "Go-to" dealers. Ax anyone ;-)
BassNW is cheaper on used purchases, but for new, they are
rather interchangeable.

I have already been in contact with Bass Central today. This deal could easily happen tomorrow.

Retro Burst. The other finish you are referring to (to the best of my knowledge) is on the non-Classic version with the 3 band eq.

Pretty classic! Trans finish is great decision) I like honey burst and transparent blue most of all. There is an awesome transparent black but it is only for anniversary models as I know.
