Favorite strings on your MM bass?

BP strings issue is interesting and cool... but general, as people were saying in another thread.

but it makes me wonder what players are liking on their MM basses.

My (newly aquired) Stingray 5 has (I think) Rotosounds on it...which are bright and raw...too much for me, so I'm thinking about what to try next.

I prefer TI Jazz flats on my SR 5. The EB strings that came on mine would be the rounds I would choose were I to play roundwounds.

super slinkies. if its good enough for the factory its good enough for me. well not really, but they sound kick ass and thats all that matters.

I prefer slinkys, but am about to give flats a good run. Ive got a set of Rotos on the way, but will be trying TI, D'Addario Chromes, and EB flats. As far as rounds go I may always be content with the slinkys.

T-I Powerbass 345's all the way baby! More expensive than a lot of others but worth it IMHO. They last forever and the smaller gauge B-string seems more taut than any other I've tried. Oh yeah did I mention that they last FOREVER?

I use DR fatbeams and lowriders. I do have some bootzillas though...

I've been happy with my switch to D'Addario ProSteels on my Bongo and fretless SR5 but I'm going to have the new lighter gauge Super Slinkies on my fretless Bongo5 so we'll have to hear those. I'm still in process of trying out these famed TI strings that last forever and are the cat's meow but one thing I did notice about my SR5 and my Bongo that when the strings go dead... they go dead bad, most likely due to the active pre-amps bringing out the deadness but I absolutely can't handle the tone when the strings go 'pear shaped' as it were. Good luck finding your strings though, a friend of mine is also desperately trying to convert me to being a DR player but I dunno... I'll have to see if Santa brings me any TIs this year!

I recently put a set of light 40-120 DR Hi-Beams on one of the SR5s. Wonderful. Methinks I'll have to move the other basses over to DR. Trouble is they don't do 40-120 in Nickel.

Yes they do, they're called DR Sunbeam Lite 5's (NLR5-40)


They are similar tension/round core just like the Hi-beams
except with a nickel plated wrap - really nice strings.

I've got D'Addario Chromes on my Epi fretless acoustic 5, and they have been great. Might give em a try.

You flat users: What are flats like on a SR 5? Can they be slapped if the moment needs it? Do they still growl?

I tried putting on a set of Elixirs that I had around, but the 085 D string was too big for the nut, and I'm not up for messing with that.

Thanks for the tip. That's just what I want. The reason I didn't think they were around is because my usual supplier doesn't list them. I'm gonna have to do some serious research for a source here.

I have a brand new set of TI Jazz Flats (345s) if anyone is interested. I did take the cellophane wrapping off of the package, but I never put them on a bass. PM me if anyone's interested.
