I was playing around on the instrument builder today to try and decide if there were any available Black Sterlings within driving distance. I was seriously considering ordering the exact one I want with the matching headstock, when I noticed that the same bass with everything but the headstock was showing in stock at a store about 1.5 hours away. I called to see if they still had it and how much they wanted for it.

Long story short, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I'm going there tomorrow and get it.:D If they're as competitive on their amp prices as they were on the bass, I may just get one of those while I'm there so I can quit playing through my questionable rig consisting of an ART preamp, Crown power amp and PA subwoofer that I pieced together when our regular bass player quit.:mad: According to their website, they carry Eden, SWR and Genz Benz. I'm thinking 2x10 with a horn and a small/med wattage head for portability. I know Eden and SWR but am not familiar with the other one. Any of you guys using a Genz Benz?

That sounds almost like a personal question...;)

Can't go wrong with Genz Benz or the Eden stuff, personally I can't stand the the SWR stuff. Eden is a bit more modern sounding, while the GB stuff is warmer sounding. The one thing people always say about Eden stuff is that they sound really good when you match an Eden head with an Eden cab.

Thanks for the input. I notice in your signature that you have a GBE500 and a 2x10. Does that stand alone most of the time or do you also run a direct line into the PA?

Hopefully they'll have some GB's in stock to try out. I tend to prefer a warmer amp like an old cranked SVT (without all the weight.) Amps always sound best for that last 10 minutes just before the pilot light goes out, circuit breaker trips, and smoke puffs out the back. :)

Hey, I'm playing eden WT400?D410XLT.

You should pick up the WT550, extremely versatile, goes to 2ohms ~750 watts.

210XLT = more mids
210XST = more open sounding bottom.

Grab a 4 OHM model, and feel free to add another if needed.

Got the Sterling today :) and also ended up getting an Eden DC 210xlt combo. This was the best sounding amp I tried today and got a VERY good deal on it compared to what I've seen these going for. I also tried a Hartke 3500 and a used Aguillar (can't remember the model).

All in all and excellent day for musical purchases! I'll post a picture later if I can figure out how to do that:confused:

Off to practice now...
