Filling in a finish chip with nail polish?

So a buddy chipped the back of his guitar (through the finish to the wood) and asked if I knew of anyway to seal it back up without doing some $ pro refinishing job.

I suggested using black (color of guitar back finish) nail polish.

What do you all think?
 
I've had good success with gloss black automobile touch-up paint on my Axis - had a couple of dings in the back to the wood, and now you can't see them unless you really look...

I have used that on my Parker Fly Deluxe with no prob.
