After a 10 year hiatus from the music business to get my Ph.D., I'm back on stage with a new band, "Woody and the Termites" (lead singer/guitarist's nickname is Woody). We played our innaugural gig on the 4th of July at a private party in Frostburg, way up in the mountains of Western Maryland. It was the first time I played my new Stingray in front of an audience. Gotta love that Stingray tone!

Congratulations! Nice bass.

So that means you are one of the termites? Might be dangerous to have a bass made of wood. :D

I almost let that slide because getting your Ph.D is a very cool thing and congrats are in order for sure but I could name a few other "diversions" that may be better or at least, equal.

Yes, that's me in my avatar picture, playing a gig at Sonoma State College in 1973. Less weight then, more hair, as you can see . . . :)
(PS: I still have that bass too, a 1966 sunburst P-bass.)

Nope, I'll never sell that bass. It payed my rent for many years. Perfect finish when I got it (used) in 1972, now has no finish on neck, no finish where my arm rests on the body, scars and dings from years of bar wars. I'll leave it to my daughter in my will, along with my 1981 G&L L-1000.

She'll also get my Stingray someday. I can't imagine ever parting with it now that I finally have one. I've lusted for one since they first came out, can't understand why I waited so long to get one. But now, at last, I can have that Stingray sound! Better late than never, no?
