Hi, I just bought a amber ebmm evh.

Serial no. 81700 - does anyone know what year that would be ?

The top has some dings and scratches should I leave it alone or use a dremel with soft buffer and some kind of cleaning compound

What is a good product for cleaning quilted maple

Personally I'd leave the scratches, but posting pic's will certainly give us more of an idea. Welcome to the best forum around, even our bass playin formites are pretty cool. When you post a pic can you make sure you're wearing pants?

Hi Brent, this guitar took a beating on tour the owners name was Mark Jones he plays in a backing band called I believe sound box, a no. bay area band.

I saw him play it backing up Joe Lynn Turner Glen Hughes Pat Travers and opening up for Montrose.

He told me all these guitarists he used to go see in the 80's he ended up playing with them and they all played the ebmm and they all loved it especially Pat Travers. Nuno Bettencourt also played it .

This does not make it any more valuable but its cool they all played it, gives a little history to it.

He told me it was the 700th one made I want to verify that.

I would NOT however use a Dremmel on the surface. If anything I'd use a very gentle 3M rubbing compound by hand and as usual test a small inconspicuous area first

My serial number is 81769, and it's dob is 7/8/92, and was part of the second batch of 1000. Now I know the numbers aren't necessarily consecutive, but I would hazard a guess it's probably closer to the 1700th made. But still, great axe, great collector's item. Best damn guitar in the world as far as I'm concerned.

I would leave the dings alone. I try to keep my guitars as nice as possible. Having said that, when they get a mark or a ding here and there because they get played, I see it pretty much as adding character. An old guitar that looks like it's been played seems much cooler to me than an old guitar in mint condition.

And fixing the dents won't improve the collectability of the guitar. For the most part, real collectors want original condition, dents and all.

that is a cool story....mine has no history, except for the fact that somebody bought in 94....kept it in a closet, and then i bought it in 04.

you are probably better off to leave it like it is. you may do me damage trying to fix it.

Yeah, leave it. If you saw all the dings and scratches and chips in mine, it'd probably make you cry (if you're a die hard, don't play your guitar collector). But mine has been my #1 since I bought it '92, so these things happen.
