First year EVH -Blue gone Bad !!

I finally found some good comparison pics to show whow ever give a FF !!
Notice on the top Low E side there is still some blue that has not faded- How Kool !! Ser#80165- anyone know what year this is??

I don't think so... looks like shading from the case to me... the blue looks the same under the trem arm's shadow... and as to "blue gone bad", the "greening" looks like what happens when the clear coat yellow's a bit with age - I'm sure it still looks very nice in person...

Hmm... Seems controversial.
I'll tell you what: For no charge, send the instrument to me and I will conduct an exhaustive series of tests to determine pigmentation, refraction and UV penetration effects. I will report back toyou after 10-14 months at which time the instrument will be returned

You are tripping - The blue is there always !! the pic is accurate - there are no shadows - I'm standing in front of the case with just a camera and a flash-She has just faded to seafoamish/light Emerald Green .
The high "E" side has really turned to an emerald green color-(extra Stain??)

Anyone ever seen any chit like that??

Yeah, my blue Axis EX had a touch of the fades...looked like streaks of gold in the waves

Purple.

The transparent colors on the EVH were prone to fade because they were stained by hand. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Hey Mack, I don't think you have a faded blue guitar there. I believe the color you have there is a discontinued color that EBMM had for a while. I can't remember if it was called Transparent Teal or Aqua or what, but I specifically remember it. I saw one after the EVH line was introduced with a beautiful loose quilt top, and thought it looked like a lagoon in St. Thomas. I'm pretty sure it's Trans Teal, not blue.

maybe its just me but i like the faded ones better it makes each one unique. im not one of those guys that will pay more for a reliced guitar but i really like the faded evh colors.

Possibly right I got this from the Wolfgang Registry:

I did contact Ernie Ball though last week I beileve a guy named Scott Ball looked up my Serial number and told me it was a Trans Blue???

Ernie Ball NEVER offered an AQUA. There was ONLY one color blue. The blue color faded over time, and many look aqua or something close to aqua, but they only made ONE blue!

Okay Jim, you sound pretty sure, and I may be crazy, but I'm almost positive I remember a Transparent Teal and a Transparent Blue as color options. As far as Aqua, I was just going off of what Mack found on the Wolfgang registry. The more I think about it, the more I'm sure the color was called Trans Teal.

Does anyone know the actual Date EB started making the EVH Ernie Ball MM's.
The one I have is most probably an early one with the serial number(Ser#80165)??
Seems like all the other serial numbers have seen had alot higher numbers??
Any info would be appreciated.

I looooooooove faded finishes. The old stain PRS used was prone to fading as well, and the results are amazing! Same for the few Axis/EVH you guys have. Fading gives each guitar a unique character.

And by the way, hand staining doesn't create fading. It's the stain used, however it's applied. More sensitive to light or to sink into the wood... In the case of PRS, the stains were reformulated to prevent premature fading.
