Howdy, everyone. I'm not wanting to start any further dust-ups (like there haven't been enough as it is), but I just wanted to remind everyone of the handy built in features offered by the forum software--namely, the buddy/ignore functions.

For example, if you want to know when someone is on the forum, you can add them to your Buddy list. I've used this feature over at Talkbass, and it comes in handy if you see someone online and want to send them a quick PM while they are on the servers.

Or, in the off chance someone can't seem to play well with another menber, or you simply can't seem to find a middle ground, you can add them to your 'ignore' list. If they start a thread, you'll still see the title, but if they post in a thread, you'll know they posted something, but the content of their post will be blocked unless someone quotes it.

So, instead of getting into a pissing contest with the know it all/troll of the week and derailing a thread, simply put them on your ignore list for a little while. Sometimes, someone can get under your skin and you can't let anything slide. So, in those times, it might be best just to take a 'time out' from reading certain posts. You'll find that after a couple of days of ignoring someone that their posts don't bug you as much as they had been. Or, if you find that they remain a good example of someone who needs to shop for Levi's denim headgear, you can simply leave them on your list.

Is it an ideal solution? Of course not. In a perfect world, we'd all simply let their words wash over us like so much digital noise (I'm always impressed with how well Jack usually does this, but I think it has something to do with being drunk all the time--I digress). But, the last time I checked, we're all human, driven by emotion. This way, you can still enjoy the forum and read all of the threads without people making you crazy.

You'll find the buddy/ignore funtions in your User CP.

Bassmonkee is exactly right about the features that are available and how they work. I don't really have that option, but the rest of you do.

But - before you go plugging 'ignore' in, let's take a deep breath and see if we can all be friendly, positive and helpful, like Boy Scouts, only bigger and uglier and there are no badges or anything.

We've had a rough spot. The people involved have had good faith discussions about what and how and why, and I think the issues are resolved.

I certainly remain hopeful.

This is, whether we mean it to be or not, sort of a little club and that's okay. Just remain open to new members and new ideas, okay?

I hesitated to post this thread. But, the option is there, and I didn't think a lot of people knew about it. Nothing on this forum should cause a Hatfield/Mccoy situation, but if someone brings something to a thread, or always seems to take someone's post in a way that turns a little comment into a total thread derail, it certainly couldn't hurt.

Feel free to delete this thread if you think it will cause more problems, Jack. I left my Hall Monitor badge at work, so I won't feel like anyone is stepping on my toes.

No, this is useful information and isn't directed at anyone, and I appreciate that.

I would also appreciate everyone taking a deep breath and seeing how things go before going the "Ignore" route.

Thanks, you guys. Keep the family spirit, eh?

Bassmonkey, it's a great tool to use for sure, but just as that car is speeding towards you, saying, or thinking it won't hit you cause you have "ignored it" is well...not realistic.

Yesterdays string got out of hand, and I pm'ed some people and appologized as well to most on the forum...you giving advice on "Feel free to delete this thread if you think it will cause more problems, Jack. I left my Hall Monitor badge at work, so I won't feel like anyone is stepping on my toes" is not needed..IMO.

I will not repeat my behavior of yesterday...please don't try to stir it up today...OK?

All he's saying is that he knows it's not his place to moderate the forum, but let's be clear - I value input from you guys, all of you, on how the place runs.

This thread was started without bassmonkee knowing (or anyone else, for that matter, because it was between us, Jim) that we had our heart to heart and worked some things out.

Like I've said, let's just start over with our relationships and not take things personally and try to be like Boy Scouts.

Again, only older and uglier.

I don't believe in using the Ignore function. I want to see the idiotic posts are well as the sensible ones. The forum wouldn't be interesting at all it it only contained factual, politically correct information :p

With quoting habits of everyone nothing is ignored any way. You see the post in quotes.

As for yesterday it was yesterday. Today will soon be yet another yesterday.

Couple more yesterdays I got a gig :)

TK is one of my favorite human beans.

We, most of us, are completely full of BS, which is sometimes fun.

TK, he gets that fancy bale of hay down where the cows can eat it.

I like that.

Now that I re-read that heck I think them yesterdays could be made into a song. Or has that been done already?

I hate puzzles Bigballz. I am not smart enough to figure them out.
