Can someone from the factory tell me if it's possible to have Sims LEDS fitted to the side of the fretboard as a bass is being built. I have a Bongo on order and would like that done at the build stage rather than as a post-sale modification.

Sorry, but that would be custom work, and we don't do that at the factory.

i thought all they did was take off the fretboard, put in the lights, then glue it back on. am i missing something? i want lights in my bass.

wouldn't it be possible to use the same battery as the preamp?

it would shorten your battery life significantly, but it would shorten your routing requirements significantly as well.

how much are the graphite neck with LED preinstalled?

would it still bear the MM logo?
 
i dont see why it would, its only 2mm. that is very small. if they didnt fill in those holes that they drilled that might affect the strangth. but if they were to fill them back in i wouldnt see at all why there would be any signigicant change in the necks strength. as long as there wasnt any visible difference, and it was done very very well i dont see what the problem would be. actually, if you think about it, that method seems less savage. cutting a small strip of wood out, and then drillig a few holes, compared to pulling the fretboard all the way off and then gluing it back on. but thats just me.
 
cool...i have aspirations to order a graphite neck with prebuilt infront LEDs from Status. So tell me...what did it require to make it fit? Did you have to make some holes inside the body to put an extra battery?
 
I took the bass to Status and they did all the work. Cutting an extra battery box in the back, drilling through, fitting an on/off switch and then fitting the neck, transferring the tuners across and the setting the bass up.

One word of caution - this is not a cheap exercise and you might end up spending more than you paid for the bass so you have to be really sure you need LEDs.
 
either expensive or long term project cos it would be an interesting DIY :) can i ask you where is the location of the switch?
 
led lights in my bass neck

i am new to this board and found this about led beck lights,,
i have them in my neck on my bass ,yep i put them there along with the help of my lead man.
hey!! the sound man turned down the lights and the crowd went wild ,screaming and clapping and hollaring ,the lead man also had his on,his is red and mine is a very bright blue,
we just got a single switch for turning on and its right by the volume knob,they are great crowd pleasers
and the price was right ,,,from radio shack
it do make a good working band pleasing

I don't know why anyone would actually NEED LEDs in their bass. Seems kind of pointless IMHO. Of course, it's just like switching pickguards or something. Don't need to but cool to do I suppose.

You either don't play in very dark venues or you are so good that you can play blind and don't need to see what you are doing.
