"G" string slippage on the Sr5

this is Bobbo 77. I have brought up this subject a few times because I don't understand why this has'nt been adressed by E.B. Yes, I know this is one of the trade-offs of having close string spacing, but I've read where some have experienced this problem,and some have'nt. Are the necks not cut consistantly at the same width?,and if not, should'nt E.B. step in and take care of this? I'd like to hear from someone at E.B. about this!

hmm.... I haven't had any problems with my SR5 but something like this problem might be how hard you're playing the G or your fretting hand positioning. A friend of mine recently had a chance to play Matthew Garrison's personal Fodera 5 string, now my buddy is a professional bassist and luthier and is on par with Pattitucci and the rest, and when he played Matt G's Fodera the frets buzzed like crazy. Even though my friend does play with an extremely light touch, Matt's technique and set-up was so different that the thing buzzed and buzzed because the action was so low.... all that to say if the nut is the same as all other SR5s maybe try a different playing approach... ? I'm not attacking your playing by any stretch, I just know what's happened to me and friends who have experienced the same. But if it is an issue of the bass itself being wonky, just get a new nut and cut the G slot closer to the D than to the edge of the fingerboard.
