PhatDuck I need your help on this one,

when you use one of the preset garage band loops is there anyway you can change the chords but not the key? Like when your playing in the key of C you want to play just C G A F, instead of the preset loop such as G A C B? This is for a freind and if you guys don't know can you point me in the direction of a Garage band forum?

I was on a friends IMAC G5 and he showed me garage band for the first time and told me what he was trying to do, I thought they should have a way to do it, however Im begging to think not since the passing notes would have to be diffrent going from chord to chord, anyways I told him I would find out so here I am..

Hi Spencer

Basically the answer is no. The loops are pre-recorded and there is no scope to change them except for the key and the tempo.

As for Garageband Forums, the Apple support discussions group is a good place to start.

Good luck and enjoy Garageband!

i dont think so either. honestly i havent used any loops besides some drum loops.

lemme check...

OK no. i garageband if you use a have software instrument track you can double click on it and see the musical notation or this other notation (not tab - something i havent seen before). it looks like the loops do not behave like a software track but behave like a "real instrument" track. had the loops acted like a software track you could have editted them pretty easily.

so anyways - when you double click a software track you can view either the musical notes or the other notation. in this "edit" mode you can actually drag notes around (so drag a G up the staff to a C) or you can change a 1/4 note to an 1/8 note.

anywho... you should try this. cuz its fun. create a new track, select software instrument, pick an instrument, goto the window menu and select "musical typing", hit record and bang on your computer's keyboard. it'll record whatever you did... next double click on the tarck to go to edit mode and start dragging the notes around. Thsi makes creating drum loops WAY easy

anywho... this isnt what you wanted but you do this to easily create software tracks to use yourself.
